In a unanimous decision among school board members of Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars and Spalding Catholic in Granville, the two schools will, indeed, be merging.
Even though the vote was unanimous, administrators with Spalding say it was a tough decision. Spalding School board President Jeanne Jungers said, "certainly brings with it mixed emotions. A lot of sadness, but also a lot of hope for the future and hope that you know God is leading us in the right direction."
School representatives say the move will not only save money but also create an even stronger group of faith-driven students.
The two schools will be combined beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, and the school will continue being called Gehlen Catholic High School and it will remain in Le Mars.
