All it takes is a little red card to save some serious cash on gas. And folks in Sioux City are getting with the program."
"Anything to save a buck," said Lottie White, in Sioux City.
The new Fuel Saver Program at Hy-Vee in Sioux City is already saving thousands of shoppers anywhere from 2-25 cents off a gallon a gas, every time they go to the grocery store.
How it works: every week, Hy-Vee sends out a Fuel Saver Ad. Inside you'll find a bunch of every day items, that have an associated discount.
"Items are actually marked by a sign with the 10-cent, 5-cents, 3-cents, 2-cents attached to it, and if you purchase those items, you get that discount onto the card," said Mo Land, Hamilton Hy-Vee Manager.
Once at the check out, you hand them your card, they swipe it for your groceries, then it's off to the gas station. Then you take that same red card and swipe it for your gas.
Swipe. And save. It's that simple.
"Last week I got gas for a buck ten a gallon. When was the last time anyone got gas for a dollar ten," said Land.
"It helps. It's not a big difference, but I figure down the road it will be a big difference,"said White.
After you purchase your groceries, you have 30 days to use the gas discounts on your fuel saver card. And the fuel savor card doesn't just work at Hy-Vee Gas stations, you can also use it at Shell and Casey's Gas Stations.
