With Defense Secretary Leon Panetta returning to civilian life and the resignation of CIA Director David Petreaus, President Obama had two big jobs to fill.

Today he turned to his counter terrorism advisor, John Brennan, to head the spy agency. And for the Pentagon, he picked Republican, Chuck Hagel, who is good friend. If confirmed, Hagel would hold several records for the post.

President Obama: Chuck Hagel's leadership of our military would be historic. He'd be the first person of enlisted rank to serve as secretary of defense, one of the few secretaries who've been wounded in war and the first Vietnam veteran to lead the department

Neither pick is without controversy. Hagel has drawn fire from both parties for this views on the Iraq war and Israel. And Brennan for his links to enhanced interrogation techniques.
