Some Sioux City homeowners are saying "Not in our backyard" when it comes to a new Walgreens store at 19th and Hamilton Boulevard.
The build will be the second time Walgreens has tried to add a new store in the area, and on Monday, homeowners expressed that they are not happy with it.
The proposed 14,820 square foot store would be built by Semper Development out of Minneapolis.
Seven homeowners have already signed agreements to sell their property if the plan is approved by the city, but the whole neighborhood is not on board.
Mindy Dye who lives just up the hill from 19th and Hamilton said she is not going to like the change of scenery.
"I'm concerned with what it's going to be like after they're done with everything especially with the construction of a 40 foot wall," said Dye.
In 2004, Village Development out of Lincoln, Nebraska tried to build a Walgreens in the same location, but the plan fell through due to objections like Dye's.
If the plan does go forward this time around, the city sees it sparking a lot of economic development.
"This is the major intersection in that whole corridor. I think this might start the energy to spur other development," said Brent Nelson with Sioux City Planning and Zoning.
On Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the City Council chambers, Semper Development will present is proposal to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
If approved by the commission, the proposal will go before the City Council at a later date.
