Three died in a car accident early Sunday morning. Around 3 a.m. Sioux City Police, fire crews and paramedics were called out to 35th and Grandview. When they arrived a vehicle was flipped upside down in Perry Creek.
The vehicle with five occupants was going westbound on 35th, drove through a residence yard and went into the creek. Neighbors there said they were awakened by the crash.
"At first, it sounded like someone hit something really hard," said Beth Karpuk who lives near Perry Creek. "I went out thinking something had happened in the front of our street but there was nothing out there. I went back to bed, but within minutes the sirens came."
Two were able to escape the vehicle after it entered the water. Their condition of injuries is unknown. The other three individuals were pulled out by Siouxland Paramedics and taken to St. Luke's Hospital and Mercy Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.
Karpuk said police told her that before the accident happened, the vehicle was earlier reported for erratic driving. The accident is still under investigation.
