It's the middle of January and construction crews are hard at work building new homes in the Whispering Creek subdivision. Something homeowners are getting use to seeing.
"Things really changed a lot. A lot of new homes and just a lot of activity, a lot of construction,"said Deb Twyford, of Sioux City.
A record breaking 81 homes were built in Sioux City last year, many right here in this neighborhood. The last time the city saw numbers like this was back in 2003, when 75 homes were built. So what's behind the big housing boom?
"Once something get's rolling and more homes out here, I think it becomes more of a neighborhood feel, I think it becomes more attractive to people than say it was 6 or 7 years ago," said Tim Brown, co-owner of Brown-Wegher Construction.
Brown and his crew are building two houses on the same block right now. He plans to build a total of 12-14 homes here in this year alone.
Brown says he wouldn't be surprised to see 100 more homes built in the Whispering Creek area over the next couple of years. Which is great news for some folks.
"I'm happy about it. It's a great place to live. We wouldn't want to live anywhere else," said Rick Twyford.
