The Iowa Powerlifting State Championships were held at the Four Seasons Health Club. Men and woman of all ages were able to participate.

They were categorized by gender, age and body weight. Powerlifters compete in hopes of qualifying for national level events across the country, and then they hope move on to compete in world tournaments.

Exercise Manager, Brad Lepper said it has been a while since the state of Iowa has had a powerlifting competition this big.

"We haven't had a USA powerlifting meet probably in the last 5 or 6 years, so we're bringing it back and we're hoping to have another one in Cedar Rapids around October maybe, so hopefully bring some powerlifting back to our state," he said.

Folks from Nebraska, South Dakota and even New Jersey competed. The lifter with the highest total wins the competition.
