Kirk Levin, 21, has entered a written plea of not guilty for the murder of his mother.
Levin is accused of killing his mother, Marilyn Schmitt, in her home outside of Early, IA. The killing took place on January 3rd, just days after Levin was released from prison on separate charges.
Autopsy findings from the State Medical Examiner's Office show that Schmitt died of sharp force injuries. The body was actually found during an investigation of another crime Levin is accused of committing.
Levin is accused of kidnapping a woman from her home in Storm Lake, IA. Court records say that he tied her up and put her in trunk with the intention of taking her to his home. The same home where the dead body was found.
While driving to his Early, IA home, they say Levin lost control of his car and drove into a ditch. That is where a local farmer found Levin and the victim. Officers say at this point the victim was tied up in the backseat and Levin had fled on foot. They later found him hiding in a nearby barn.
While investigating the kidnapping, they found the body of Marilyn Schmitt at her home. Levin is charged with Murder in the 1st Degree and Kidnapping in the 3rd Degree.
