Right now, customers at Cherry Street Grille in Vermillion, South Dakota can dine in without having to worry about paying with cash or credit, but the menu may be changing. At least when it comes to prices.
Credit card companies like Visa and Mastercard, are now letting business like this one, charge customers an additional 3% fee for using a credit card.
And for some folks, it's a hard concept to swallow.
Ana Nesselhuf, a regular at Cherry Street, says, "'I'd probably still use cash because three percent is a lot for some people."
A lot for some people and some small businesses.
John Robertson, the owner of Cherry Street, says, "Eight-thousand dollars is a lot to a small business."
But Roberston is serving up a unique approach when it comes to the 3% surcharge. Instead of punishing customers for using their credit cards, there would be a type of reward system for those who pay with cash.
Robertson explains, "All the menu would reflect the credit card price and then we'd give a three percent discount at the cash register. I think people come in look at the menu and you know what you're going to spend then you walk up to the register and someone gives you a discount, makes you happy walking out the door."
