Sioux City, IA and five other communities are the latest cities in Iowa to earn the Blue Zones label.
Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Healthways made the announcement in Des Moines, IA on Wednesday. The new demonstration sites are: Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Marion, Muscatine, and Oskaloosa. These communities join Cedar Falls, Mason City, Spencer and Waterloo which were named Blue Zone demonstration sites last May.
Sioux City and the other communities will receive assistance from experts to develop and implement a blueprint for making permanent environmental, social and policy changes that lead people to lead longer happier lives.
