The Sioux City Police Department is warning drivers to lock their cars at night and take their valuables inside after a string of car break-ins in the area.

Police say that individuals are getting into vehicles and stealing items of value including cash, GPS devices, lap tops, and other items of value.

According to police records a dozen cars have been broken into in the last 24 hours alone.

Authorities urge you to remove these kinds of items from your vehicle when you get out and try to park in a well lit area. They say the best way to avoid having your car burglarized is simply locking your doors.

If you see or hear anything suspicious of this nature, you're asked to call the Sioux City Police Department at 279-6960, or you can call crime stoppers at 258-TIPS.
