The Iowa Legislature is also looking into cracking down on retailers that sell synthetic drugs. Those types of substances are banned in the state of Iowa.  Despite new laws banning "synthetics" the state says some small stores continue to distribute them.  To curb the problem the legislature is looking into making it a felony to carry more than one gram of the substance. Stores that do sell the material would be labeled as dealers and face tougher penalties.  A separate proposal that moved forward on Tuesday also increases the tax on synthetic drugs. That bill would help pay for law enforcement costs.
