The Sioux City Fire Department was called out to 1555 170th Street near the Whispering Creek Development around 3:30 Friday morning. When they arrived they found a vacant house on the property completely engulfed in flames.

Sioux City Fire Fighters worked to knock the fire down till around 5:00 a.m. before being relieved by the Sgt. Bluff Fire department. The Sgt. Bluff Fire Department continued to extinguish the fire, because the residence was outside city limits.

The home was vacant at the time, and no electricity was running to the property. The Sgt. Bluff Fire department had used the location for search and entry training since last fall, and planned on conducting a controlled burn later this summer. A few buildings still remain on the property, and will likely be burned at a later date.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A state fire marshall was on the scene earlier this morning investigating the incident.
