A highway in Wayne County, NE was shut down for part of the afternoon following a propane leak.

Around 1pm on Friday Wayne County officials got a call to a farm at the junctions of Highways 35 and 98 near Wayne. A 1,000 gallon propane tank had been sitting on some bricks when it tipped over. When the owner lifted it back up with a forklift, the valve and a hose had been knocked off.

With the valve broken off there was no way to stop the propane flow. Officials had to close down the road while they let the nearly full tank leak out.

The Nebraska State Patrol assisted in blocking traffic. Travelers had to seek alternate travel routes. The highways reopened around 4:15pm.

The Winside and Carroll Volunteer Fire Departments also assisted in the response. No injuries were reported.
