Potential doctors in the Rushmore state could finish school a whole year earlier than they do now.

South Dakota educators are looking at shortening medical school from four years to three for students who want to be family doctors.

It's all part of an effort to get more doctors into cities and rural areas in the state.

In order for the change to happen it would need to be approved by Medical School Deans, faculty and the State Board of Regents.
