It took an outpouring of support from the community of Sioux Center, and now after an impressive fundraising campaign they're getting a new hospital.
In Sioux Center the current hospital was built in 1951, and even though renovations have been made to keep things working it's time for a change of scenery.
Two years ago the Hospital Board of Directors started the "Built Around You" campaign to raise $10 million for the project.
In January, they proudly announced, they had exceeded that goal by $2.8 million dollars.
Not only will there be a change in location, but other positive changes are in place as well.
Hospital CEO Kayleen Lee says, "The best view of the facility is actually from the back side because that's the patient view and they will be able to look out onto a healing environment, a green area with a little bit of a water pond, and a nice healing garden down below it."
Since Sioux Center is growing in population Lee also believes this new facility will attract more skilled physicians and specialist to the area.
The donations from individuals and partners make up 25% of the funding needing for the hospital. The total cost of the project is $48.5 million.
Sioux Center has not made any plans yet on what they will do with the old hospital building.
Construction on the new hospital is expected to be finished in the early months of 2014.
