One of cable news's heavy-hitters is focusing on a Siouxland bank in an upcoming TV show. Larry King's new program, In View, is going to be featuring The State National Bank and Trust Company – a family operated bank that has been in Wayne, NE for over a century.
Matthew Ley is now the fifth generation in his family to operate The State National Bank and Trust Company. It was this unique perspective that interested producers of Larry King's new television show. Matthew says, "Our bank is about one hundred and twenty years old – all in the same family. I'm the fifth generation to run State National Bank since 1892. My great–great–grandfather started it and they thought that was kind of a cool angle to tell their overall story."
In an upcoming episode of the show, King is looking to highlight five independent, small banks and talk about their positive influence in their community. The Mayor of Wayne, Ken Chamberlain, says that having someone in charge of the bank who's really familiar with the community is a tremendous asset. "We're next to each other at the game on Friday night and church on Sunday. So, for me, that's where it all starts."
For Matt, he's proud of his bank and what he's been able to do for Wayne. "Wayne's a great town, the college helps a lot and makes it a very vibrant place for Nebraska. We really enjoy life here it's a great place to raise kids. And you know, the bank's the community."
The full story will air on the Discovery Channel, but a date has not been set yet.
