If you've driven down Gordon Drive in Sioux City lately, you may have noticed quite a bit of demolition going on. It's all part of the latest phase of the Interstate 29 Reconstruction Project. Crews are currently demolishing an old sprinkler business building, on the corner of Virginia Street and Gordon Drive, across from Hardees. A total of 4 buildings are currently being demolished during this phase of the project. The former Malloy building on Dace Avenue was previously torn down. And these demos are to make way for the next part of the interstate project.

"The utility work this year and the construction work along Gordon drive next year is the main reason for getting in there and taking care of this. The work in the downtown will continue now through 2018," said Dakin Schultz, transportation planner for IDOT.

Schultz says he is not exactly sure when utility relocation along Gordon Drive will take place. But in the mean time another three buildings are set to be demolished in the near future. Those include the former Playcore building off Virginia and Dace, the antique store and an empty building on Floyd Boulevard.
