Playing hockey.
It's a reality that some young kids never get to experience.
On Saturday, as a part of "Hockey Weekend Across America" the Siouxland Youth Hockey Association hosted its 5th annual "Try Hockey for Free" clinic.
"One of our goals is to bring awareness about hockey, that we have hockey in our community. It's here, right in your backdoor," said Tiffany Barrs Kane, Vice President of the Siouxland Youth Hockey Association.
During the clinic, about fifty kids ages four through nine learned some basic hockey skills like keeping balance and shooting.
Organizers of the event said other skills could also be learned, life skills.
"Some of the things that hockey brings to youth is self importance, you're important, you're part of a team. It takes every position apart of the team to become successful. Just like everything in life," added Barrs Kane.
The kids were given an hour on the ice to get a taste of what some of them would only see on TV.
"I hope they get to understand what it's like to be on the ice whether they look up to a NHL player or a Sioux City Musketeer player, they get to understand what it's like," said Dirk Richou, "Try Hockey for Free" coordinator.
