A possible snow system at the end of this week, has the potential to drop some serious flakes on Sioux City. So folks are getting ready for it.

Sioux City's Doris Gettner is ready for some snow.

"It has been way too mild. We need the moisture," said Gettner.

And her wish may be granted in the form of up to a foot of the white stuff.

"It sounds like it could be a big one! I'm just getting a few extra things to make chili in case it gets really cold," said Gettner.

Sioux City's Mary Essig told us, "Hanging out this week, but snow or not, we're going to Omaha, to the Campers Show on Saturday."

Shoppers weren't the only ones planning ahead.

The Iowa Department of Transportation's District 3 Office covers Interstate 29 and state roads like Gordon Drive.

When a winter storm is forecasted, Maintenance Manager Todd Huju has to schedule ideally 150 workers to do the job in 19 counties, through the storm and after the storm. And that work starts now.

"We monitor the weather conditions: the amount of snow that's expected, temperatures, whether the winds are going to increase or stay fairly mild."

And they do so on the DOT's own internal forecasting system.

So whether you're planning a wintry weekend with the family, or a snow cleanup workforce of over 100 people, the snow doesn't wait, so neither should you.
