Making budget cuts is never easy.
It was a passionate fight today as one city council woman stood her ground trying to save those two positions, but in the end it was too little, too late.
Mayor Bob Scott says, "Well you know when you have to cut personnel and you hear the cry that we're not concerned about public safety that bothers the heck out of me, we are concerned about public safety and I think this is the way to do it with the least impact on citizens."
The vote came down 4-1.
The lone ranger against the popular vote was city council woman Rhonda Capron.
Capron says, "Our police and fire, they protect us every day, and we know that it's a lot in the budget, but I think it's one of those things we should be backing."
If the council had voted to keep those positions, your property taxes would have risen slightly.
Scott says, "Keeping in mind that there are people out here in our community that are struggling paying their property taxes and to increase their taxes any more than what we are to me is a difficult task."
Capron's concern is of public safety, as well as children's education on fire safety.
Capron says, "Its worth two dollars more a year for one hundred thousand. So property tax–wise yes, I think its worth it."
Now these cuts are not yet set in stone, they still have to be approved by the full city council on Monday night during it's normal meeting.
At that time the council will vote to approve the final budget.
