A Sioux City dentist was among those awarded the highest honor given for volunteer service on Tuesday. Dr. Dick Hettinger was among four individuals honored with Iowa "Hall of Fame" awards at the Statehouse in Des Moines.
Hettinger spearheaded the Iowa Mission of Mercy, an annual, free dental clinic. The clinic was in Sioux City two years ago.
Over the last five years, Dr. Hettinger and his hundreds of volunteers have provided over 7,000 patients with more than four million dollars worth of free dental care.
