Couple Arrested Charged in Connection With Copper Thefts

An Omaha, NE couple has been arrested and are now under investigation for the theft of hundreds of pounds of copper.

It started as an investigation into trespassing, a Harrison county farmer had reported the couple's truck being in his field.  Officers caught up with the pair, 35-year-old Vincent Cerny and 30-year-old Heather Avila, at the Mondamin exchange near I29.

Officers discovered hundreds of pounds of copper wire in the pair's truck as well as burglary tools.  Both Cerny and Avila have been charged with several felonies.  They are currently being held in Monona County.

Additional charges may be filed at a later date.
