Sioux City Police have responded to several multi-car accidents since 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Road conditions deteriorated rapidly as soon as the snow began falling. One accident, at 4500 Military Road sent one person to the hospital with leg injuries. In addition it tied up traffic in both directions on the busy roadway.
In another section of town, there was a four-car pileup at the 2400 block of West 19th. No one was injured.
Due to the high volume of accidents, police were asking people involved in fender benders to exchange insurance information and wait until Friday to report the accident to police.
The road conditions in Sioux City are not unique, the DOT tells us that most of the roads in southwest and south central Iowa are partially to mostly snow and ice covered.
