A South Dakota Senate committee has endorsed a bill that would allow school districts to arm teachers and other personnel with guns.  The vote was five to four to send the bill to the full Senate.

The measure has already been passed by the house.

Supporters say teachers, administrators and volunteers need to be able to protect themselves and students against attacks like the recent school shooting in Connecticut.

Opponents argue that arming teachers could end up making schools more dangerous.
