(AP) A family of four was killed Saturday in a one-vehicle crash near Sioux Falls when the car they were traveling in veered off the road and struck a guardrail.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the family was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 just west of Sioux Falls at about 5:15 p.m. when the car left the roadway, entered the median and struck a guardrail and embankment before coming to rest.

Fifty-two-year-old James Arthur Vollmer and his two kids, 16-year-old Alyssa Vollmer and 13-year-old Caleb Vollmer, died at the scene. Forty-eight-year-old Julie Louise Vollmer was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital but died from injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
