It's a story that makes most of us shutter. An innocent dog tagged with spray paint after running away from home.
4-year old Blaze has ran away from home before, once for over a month. But this time, he came back shaken up, frightened and covered in spray paint.
Riley and Blaze are both 4 years old and best friends, but something was a little bit off with Blaze on Monday.
You see, Blaze ran away from home on Saturday. Family members found him about 8 hours later a few houses down covered in graffiti.
South Sioux City Police Department's Investigator Jeanette McFee said, "We are looking to the community for any information that they might have as to who could have perpetrated this crime. It is being investigated as a criminal action."
In the mean time, Blaze's owners, who wish to remain anonymous, spent 4.5 hours scrubbing the pup with olive oil and mayonnaise. So, grease the only remnants from the traumatic event.
Recently, South Sioux City has experienced an influx of gang-related graffiti problems, but police aren't pinning this incident to gangs just yet.
"We don't really have any information to say that it is gang-related. We really hate to speculate and say that it is gang-related but we're not necessarily ruling it out," said Investigator McFee.
If caught, whoever did this would face animal cruelty and criminal mischief charges.
If you have any information concerning this case, you are urged to contact either the South Sioux City Police Department at 402-494-7555 or South Sioux City Animal Control at 402-494-7590.
