Effective immediately, persons making application for a permit to carry a weapon or a permit to purchase a weapon can now conveniently find the instructions and applications at http://www.woodburyiowa.com. Applications can no longer be picked up at the Sheriff's Office.

From the Woodbury County webpage, people wanting to fill out these applications need to click on the "Sheriff" link. This link will take them to the Sheriff's Office homepage. From there, click on the "Gun Permit" link. This will take you to the page with the instructions on making application for either the carry permit or the purchase permit. These instructions need to be followed for the process to come to a successful completion. The applications are downloadable and printable at the bottom of the page after the instructions are read.

As indicated on the "Gun Permit" page in the instructions, Woodbury County is now offering a hard plastic, color photo identification card, similar to a driver's license, for an additional $20.00 fee to cover the cost of producing the card. These hard plastic I.D. cards are only offered for Non-Professional Carry Permits. They will not be available for purchase permits or Professional Carry Permits.

Additionally, if persons with Non-Professional Carry Permits that are more than thirty (30) days old, want the hard plastic card, the State of Iowa requires all criminal history checks ran again at a $25.00 fee, in addition to the $20.00 cost for the hard plastic card. If you have a permit that is less than thirty (30) days old, the only cost is the $20.00 production fee for the hard plastic card.
