We all use Facebook to catch up with old friends but law enforcement agencies are using it to solve crimes, too.

The South Sioux City Police Department launched its Facebook page just last year. Its already up to 1,600 "likes" and has actually helped investigators find suspects.

Just last week, South Sioux City Investigator Jeanette McFee says a tip on a Facebook post lead to an arrest.

The spray painted dog story from this weekend has received almost 100 comments.

Police try to post weekly, if not daily about crime prevention, awareness and cases where police are looking for community's help.

"We are able to get that out faster and we have access to so many more people. We have access to not only the people who live here but we have people who are friends, with friends, with friends," said Investigator McFee.

While police have had many successes, its Facebook page can also be the target for inappropriate language.

As in any account, police can block words, ban people and delete entire posts if the comments get too bad.

When it comes to social media, the South Sioux City PD only have a Facebook account at this time, but are interested in branching out eventually.
