He has a track record of mega wins, but now former Coach Kelly Flynn will be leaving South Sioux City High School and take his winning edge with him as South Sioux's New Economic Development Director.
Flynn said he's very enthusiastic about the job and that the timing is just right to take it on, a job he's going to study up on and look forward to bringing in new business and expand on the old.
"I want to make sure we do whatever we can for the existing businesses and try and help them as much as we can. And, study what are some things we do need, trying to look at that right now," said Flynn.
Flynn has coached girl's basketball for 30 plus years and has won 11 state championships with South Sioux.
He was named "National Coach of the Year" last year.
It's his competitive nature he had on the court that South Sioux City said is a great asset for the job.
"In the economic development world, when you want to expand industries or look for new industries, you want someone who is competitive and wants to win. He certainly has that desire," said Lance Hedquist, City Administrator.
Flynn will continue to act as Assistant Principal and Activities Coordinator for South Sioux until the end of the school year.
He will his new position in June.
