Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds says she is considering a campaign for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

During a conference call Thursday from the Philippines where Reynolds is leading a trade mission, the 53-year-old Republican said she "will take a serious look at it" after she returns to the U.S. this weekend.

Republican Congressman Tom Latham announced Wednesday he would not run next year for the seat being vacated by Democrat Tom Harkin, who has decided against seeking a sixth term. Congressman Steve King is also weighing a GOP bid.

Republican Gov. Terry Branstad had urged Latham to run next year and for King to wait. Reynolds was a state senator from Osceola before Branstad selected her as his running mate in 2010.
