A new law has been passed in Iowa to grant medical patients their final wishes.
It's called IPOST, which stands for Iowa Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment.
IPOST is one simple form that's filled out by someone who is elderly or suffers from a life threatening illness.
This piece of paper is kept with the patient at all times, and informs any medical personnel of their wishes if something were to happen.
Dr. Thomas Benzoni from Mercy Medical Center, says, "If I know what you want done, I can make sure its done, but I can't read minds, and it doesn't do any good to tell me after the fact, 'Oh my God, dad would never have wanted that done, look at the way he is.' Let me know what you want done, that's what IPOST does."
The IPOST coalition will host several informational sessions over the next few weeks:
March 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Sunrise Retirement Community Chapel.
March 6th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke's in the Auxiliary Dining Room.
March 11th at 5:00 p.m. at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in the second floor conference room.
