It may be just the beginning of March, but Sioux City crews are already taking action patching up the streets. Sioux City actually fills potholes throughout the winter season, but as we turn the corner towards Spring they are ramping up their efforts.

Sioux City Field Services are now filling holes on Priority One streets and tending to residential concerns. During a typical year, Sioux City Field Services go through 3,000 tons of asphalt filling 35,000 potholes.

And with the mild winter we've had, the city expects fewer potholes than usual and longer lasting patches. Brian Fahrendholz, the Sioux City Field Services Manager, says, "As with everything regarding pothole patching, everything is just a temporary fix. Temporary can be quite lengthy or it can be a very short amount of time so...we're hoping with the warm weather that we're going to get some more permanency to what we're doing right now."

Fahrendholz also wants to stress caution around road crews – if you see workers filling potholes, swing wide of where they're working and also slow down.

If you notice a significant pothole, you can visit the city's website at www.sioux-city.org and click the "Report A Pothole" link. Otherwise, call the Field Services office at (712)279-6886 to inform them over the phone.
