How does that old saying go? "It's just like riding a bike."
Well, not exactly.
Monte Brent and his buddies have been off road trail riding for years now.
"It's fun. You get to do it through the seasons. Negotiate the ice, snow, mud," said Brent.
Summer, fall, winter, spring, these guys hit the trails. But this time of year, they need a couple extra layers to keep warm.
"You can get a full get up here too, as far as insulated thermals, jackets, but where we're going to go and what we're going to be doing, you're not going as fast so you don't have to worry about the wind," said Brent.
OK. So the wind isn't a problem, but what about crossing over giant logs, pedaling through the snow and taking sharp turns, all in this heavily wooded area?
"It's no different to me. It's normal, haha," says Brent.
Some cyclists actually put studs in their tires to help with traction on the snowy trails.
"It's just like on a snow tire," said Brent.
So why do these guys go to the extreme just to ride? It's simple really.
"It's better than sitting on the couch," said Bob Culler, from Kingsley, IA.
"We're enjoying the great outdoors. The camaraderie. It's just fun," said Brent.
