Buena Vista University has announced a 4 percent increase in tuition at its Storm Lake campus for the 2013-14 academic year.
The new tuition approved by the Board of Trustees is $29,448. The new rate for room and board will total $8,506, also a 4 percent increase.
"This increase reflects our consideration of the fiscal realities that a number of our students and their families continue to face in our nation's troubled economy," says President Fred Moore. "We anticipate the tuition increase will be in line with percentage increases for Iowa private colleges and universities, a position BVU has been able to sustain for many years. We are committed to offering academic excellence, affordability and genuine value to our students." BVU's institutional financial aid budget exceeded $13 million this year and will be even higher for the 2013-14 academic year to help families who have need afford this valuable education.
Tuition for "face-to-face" undergraduate classes at BVU's Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) locations will be $350 per credit hour, which compares to $325 this year. The tuition for students in the face-to-face graduate program will be $464 per credit hour, a $34 increase.
Tuition for online classes will not increase, remaining at $392 per credit hour for undergraduate courses and $488 for graduate courses. This is our initial step toward establishing one GPS tuition rate for each level of instruction for online and face-to-face GPS courses as we work to make the cost of courses as equitable as possible for all GPS students.
