The gusty winds were a factor throughout Siouxland on Tuesday making for some tough travel. Peak wind gusts exceeded 45 MPH through the afternoon. That made life especially tough for semi drivers who have to contend with those strong winds blowing their vehicle around the roads.

Jace Maris was pulling a semi full of cattle from Missouri up to Minnesota and said the winds were making for a tough trek. "You've got to look out for other drivers on the road a lot more. I mean you're watching and paying attention closely to begin with. But with these high winds it's pushing your trailer farther over in the road than your truck is so you really got to watch where you're going."

With conditions like this, it's a good idea to take extra caution by reducing your speed and keeping both hands on the wheel. Icy patches can be more treacherous too with the howling winds. Also give large vehicles like trucks or buses plenty of space as they are prone to swerving with the strong gusts.
