Support Siouxland Soldiers did its part to help the veterans in our area Thursday night.
Food For Veterans is its monthly event to give food to veterans and their families in need. Food is provided by the Food Bank Of Siouxland.
But Thursday, East Middle School students donated over 1,000 pounds of food to the organization and heartfelt letters to go along with the goodies.
Vets can also get information on the Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program, or SNAP.
"We have people from SNAP here too to inform people about the qualifications for food stamps. Some people don't know that they qualify for food stamps and they actually do and so we're getting them in touch with those services as well," said Support Siouxland Soldiers' Zach Davis.
Food For Vets is held the first Thursday of every month from 5-7pm at the Support Siouxland Soldiers office at 514 Nebraska Street.
