On Saturday, a group of Sioux City high school kids helped raised awareness for cystic fibrosis through the "Great Strides Walk".

Students in the "Health Sciences Organization of America" or HOSA held the walk along Sioux City's riverfront.

About 60 people walked over a mile to raise money for the Iowa Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Many of the walkers were those with cystic fibrosis or know someone who has it.

"It's good to actually put a face to cystic fibrosis because none of us really knew anyone that had it. So in order to make a connection with it, it's really awesome to see the people who you're actually helping out and know that you're making a difference in those people's lives," said Kelsi Wilkie a student in HOSA.

The walk was a part of a national service project for HOSA.

Over $3,000 dollars was raised for the cause.
