ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Jacqui Kalin has been named the 2013 College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, it was announced today by the staff.
"The staff and team couldn't be more proud of Jacqui for what she has accomplished this season and in her career here at UNI," head coach Tanya Warren said.
Kalin was also named to the College Sports Madness MVC All-Conference first team. The senior from Sioux City, Iowa was honored three separate times this season by College Sports Madness by being named the College Sports Madness MVC Player of the Week on Dec. 31, Jan. 21 and Feb. 4.
Kalin is averaging 19.4 points per game and 20.6 points per game in conference play. She is the all-time leader in career points at UNI with 2,002 and three-pointers made with 252. She is the first female basketball player in UNI history to score 2,000 career points and just the third in UNI basketball history to reach that record.
Kalin is now first all-time at UNI in career free throw percentage and first all-time in the MVC in free throw percentage, making 95 percent of her shots. She is second at UNI in career assists with 467 and is only eight shy of tying the record of 475 set by Kelley Westhoff.
Kalin and the Panthers will return to action Friday March 15 when they play Indiana State in their first game of the 2013 MVC Tournament at 2:35 p.m.
