For some folks in Siouxland, the Pope's nationality, Argentinean, gives them even more reason to feel close to their Holy Father.

It was a day to remember for millions of Catholics, like the folks assembled at Saint Michael's Church in South Sioux City, NE.

A day made even bigger with the knowledge that Pope Francis is Latin American, just like them.

"It's awesome! I feel close to him, I might be related to him!" said Samantha Aguilera of South Sioux City.

"I think the Catholic faith in Latin America is very strong and I think that's exactly what we need now so the faith can build up stronger. I think he'll be a great leader," said Valeria Salcido of South Sioux City.

Adriana Dungan moved to Siouxland from Mexico over 10 years ago, and now teaches CCD at Saint Michael's.

When she found out who would be the leader of her church, she cried for hours.

"Well, it's a great feeling. You identify yourself with him because he knows what we've been through, the problems we have in Latin America," said Dungan.

Not only does Pope Francis speak fluent Spanish, his native tongue, he also speaks Italian and German.
