The Siouxland District Health Department received a big check on Thursday. A 20,000 dollar grant was given to the department from The Wellmark Foundation.
The grant will be used towards Sioux City school's for their "Beyond the Bell", and "Catch" programs.
The programs are meant to educate students on the importance of proper nutrition and physical activity early on.
Kevin Grieme, The Director of The Siouxland District Health Department, says through fun activities and good experiences the kids will carry on what they've learned as they get older.
"What we're really looking into doing is encouraging these children to adopt those more healthy behaviors, and that's all a part of the Catch program. And they do it through a lot of fun interactive games learning experiences, and such," he said.
Grieme also say the department depends heavily on partnerships within the community to have these programs.
This is the first time they're financially supported by The Wellmark Foundation.
