Drivers along 6th Street say ever since the left turn lanes have been reduced from two down to one due to construction, the commute has been "terrible." And it may stay like this for several more months.

"It's not great," said one driver.

"It's not pleasant, especially at 5 when you want to get home," said Breezy Struthers Drake, of Sioux City.

Right around rush hour, cars start hitting their brakes and lining up along 6th Street waiting to turn left on to Wesley Parkway.

"It's frustrating but it's been like this for so long, I'm use to it now," said Cheryl Voss of Sioux City.

The reduced turn lanes on 6th Street and Wesley Park way started almost a year ago as part of the Veteran's Bridge Reconstruction Project. Some drivers says ever since then, its taken them nearly twice as long to get home.

"It use to take my like 11 minutes to get home, now it takes 20,"said one female driver.

And it's not just the construction work that's making the commute a hassle.

"People are rude, they try to sneak in here and cut into the lane,"said one driver.

And as frustration continues to mount for some drivers,  others take the commute in stride.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says the Veteran's Bridge Project should be finished by mid-summer, meaning traffic could get back to normal around 6th Street and Wesley Park way in possibly the next 4-5 months.
