eGreenCars.com uses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay® certification program as its method for defining “green” vehicles. Since the 2000 model year, the EPA has been rating all vehicles for fuel economy, greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. In order to receive the SmartWay® designation, a vehicle must receive a combined score that is much better than the average vehicle. The criteria is assessed annually to maintain the EPA's goal of designating the top twenty percent (20%) of vehicles every model year as SmartWay® certified. By using the SmartWay® certification program, eGreenCars.com is able to provide its users with a well-established method for determining what constitutes a green, fuel-efficient vehicle.
“We help shoppers navigate through the sometimes confusing landscape of ‘green’ vehicles,” said Curt M. Lindeman, President and CEO of eGreenCars.com. “By using the EPA’s SmartWay® ratings, we can provide shoppers with an objective method to compare vehicles across different propulsion technologies.”
SmartWay® vehicles include not only emerging technologies like hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric and compressed natural gas vehicles, but also traditional gasoline and clean diesel vehicles. eGreenCars.com describes the methodology behind the certification program and provides a number of tools to aid in evaluating the different categories of vehicles, including respective advantages and disadvantages of each technology and a monthly fuel savings calculator.
A talented and broad cast of industry experts has also been assembled by eGreenCars.com to provide content to the site. Ann Mesnikoff, who most recently served as the Director of the Sierra Club Green Transportation Campaign, Charged, Electric Vehicles Magazine, the Wichita State University College of Engineering’s Renewable Energy Technology program, and others, will be regular contributors. Visitors to eGreenCars.com can expect to find information about current events and distinct points of view on issues concerning green transportation.
In addition, consumers in specific regional markets can also access the inventory of new, used and certified pre-owned green cars. Since every car listed on eGreenCars.com is an EPA certified SmartWay® vehicle, shoppers can browse with confidence knowing that cars are both fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. Initially, only dealerships in the greater San Diego market will be able to list their vehicles on eGreenCars.com. However, eGreenCars.com plans to extend the listing service to individuals and other markets by summer 2013.
eGreenCars.com is an educational resource for buying and selling new, used and certified pre-owned fuel-efficient, green cars. The company helps shoppers compare different green technologies, determine which option is right for them, and find their green car. From fuel-efficient gasoline and clean diesel cars to electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid or other emerging green technology, eGreenCars.com simplifies the decision making process. eGreenCars believes that a car can make a difference, and is dedicated to helping people save money, preserve the environment, reduce dependence on foreign oil and achieve driving freedom.
