Sioux City, IA - Not even an April snowstorm could keep pool junkies from Minnesota to Kansas from breaking into the Sioux City Convention Center.
Fred Putnam started playing when he was a little boy and he travels from St. Joseph, MO every year to show off his stuff.
"I started playing when I was five and now I'm forty-nine. I just really enjoy it." Putnam said.
It's a tournament that spans four days -- everyone shows up on a Thursday and then after a double elimination tournament -- winners from different singles and team events are crowned on Sunday.
Last year's returning singles champ, Trey Reis, is back to defend his title. And he's got plenty of tournament experience.
"My dad and my uncle were big into leagues and tournaments so I started getting interested in it." said Reis.
This pool tournament is more like a family reunion. These players all form friendships that last longer than single tournament.
"There's a 150 people here that I've never met before that I've just met playing pool." Reis said.
