Sioux City, IA -- Gary Davis had a big day for the Blue and Gold as the Chargers swept Morningside on Saturday.
In game one the Cliff scored all three of their runs in the third. The Stangs threatened late in the seventh, but Davis delivered the final punch and struck out Morningside's Keaton Rowe with the tying runs on base. The Cliff walked away with game one, 3-1.
The Stang's posted two runs early in game two. The Cliff responded and had a big fifth inning. The Blue and Gold rattled off three hits and scored four runs off the bats of Joshua Penrod (2 RBI) and Davis (2 RBI). The Stangs tallied two more runs after the seventh and locked the game 4-4. Zach Watts knocked-in Angel Talamantes for the game-winning run. The Cliff stole game two 5-4.
The sweep was the Chargers' second of the season. With the dual wins the Cliff improved to 12-30 overall and 8-12 in the GPAC. The Cliff has one non-conference game remaining in 2013 campaign. The Chargers will play Sunday against Bellevue in Bellevue, Neb. in a single nine-inning game. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
