Cherokee, IA - The town of Cherokee, Iowa has some new Texas Rangers fans now. Cherokee grad Cody Ege decided to forgo his senior season at Louisville to sign with the Texas Rangers who drafted him last month in the 15th round.
The details of the contract were not disclosed other than Ege signed a standard first year player contract.
Another Cherokee native, Sam Koch, signed with the New York Mets last year. Ege will report to Spokane, Washington this weekend as he begins his pro career.
Colton Iverson's pro basketball career officially began Thursday when he was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA draft with the 53rd overall pick. The Celtics obtained the pick from Indiana for cash.
The former Yankton Bucks star will be joining a franchise entering a serious transition. Head coach Doc Rivers left for the Los Angeles Clippers this week and aging superstars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are headed for Brooklyn as the Celtics seek younger players.
