Dallas, TX - Iowa State has holes to fill on defense. The Cyclones will have to find a way to replace All-Big 12 linebackers A.J. Klein and Jake Knott. Head Coach Paul Rhoads says the opportunity to fill those positions has created competition and has elevated the play of the young guys on defense.
Offensively the Cyclones have a stable of running backs that can carry the load. Shontrelle Johnson, James White, and Jeff Woody combined for over 12-hundred yards last season. Rhoads says this is the deepest and most talented group he's had at any skill position since coming to Iowa State. Rhoads also like the way quarterback Sam Richardson has looked. He says Richardson has become a leader and is expecting him to hav a great year.
