Fort Dodge, IA--Four Siouxland teams faced off today in the softball state tournament semifinals. Only one, however, will play for the championship.
In Class 1A, No. 1 Akron-Westfield eeked out a 1-0 victory over No. 5 Don Bosco. The Westerners were able to put up an unearned run in the third inning and that proved to be enough as Kayla Tindall pitched seven innings of one-hit softball.
Also in Class 1A, No. 4 Newell-Fonda had a chance to make it an all-Siouxland final. No. 10 New London, however, had other plans. New London scored the only run of the game on a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 1-0. Newell-Fonda's season comes to a close at 36-7.
Akron-Westfield and New London will face off at 10 a.m. Friday for the state championship.
In Class 2A, Ridge View was unable to get the offense going against No. 3 Durant. The Raptors were only able to muster three hits in a 6-0 defeat. Ridge View ends its season at 31-11. Durant will play No. 2 Treynor at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
In Class 3A, top-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton was upset in extra innings by No. 5 Bondurant-Farrar. SB-L was up 2-1 in the seventh, but Bondurant-Farrar was able to tie it before winning in the eighth inning. SB-L ends its season at 34-4. Bondurant-Farrar will take on No. 11 Clarke for the state championship Friday at 2:30 p.m.
