Sioux City, IA—The Briar Cliff Chargers may have a new volleyball coach for the third time in four seasons, but they are ready to shake up the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Trevor Schirman was hired in the off season, and his team was voted seventh in the GPAC preseason poll. Even though the squad is young, they return five starters from last year's 20-15 team.
While Schirman says the team is slotted in about the right place, returning all-conference setter Erin Frank disagrees.
"I think we're definitely coming in as underdogs," said Frank. "I don't think we deserve that seven-seed, but as it is, it happened that way. So now we're going to fight to prove that we shouldn't have gotten seventh."
The Chargers got their first win of the season this evening, defeating the College of St. Mary Flames in straight sets at the Red Raider Classic.
