Vermillion, SD—After the surprise retirement of Men's Head Basketball Coach Dave Boots earlier this week, the University of South Dakota has announced Joey James will serve as the interim head coach, effective immediately.
"After carefully considering our options," said Athletics Director David Herbster, "I have decided to appoint Assistant Coach Joey James interim head coach. At the conclusion of the season, a national search for the position will be conducted."
James, a former player for the Coyotes, has been an assistant under Boots for the last ten seasons.
"I want to thank President (James) Abbott, David Herbster and David Williams for having the confidence in me to lead this program," James said. "Our staff and players will work hard on and off the court and will represent our University and program with great pride. They play hard, compete hard, and have great chemistry. Our staff is confident we will get the job done."
